You can reserve each of the following dinner and breakfast courses by reserving our half board plan.

Our breakfast ingredients, like you will see with all of our meal courses, all come from Bungo Ono. Consisting of our seasonal soups, scrambled eggs, sausage, 8 leaf organic salad, with milk, orange juice, or coffee as options.

The uniqueness in our breakfast lies in our bread; “Shie Manju” to be exact. Made in this local village for hundreds of years, we have created a homemade pumpkin and lemon jam to complement its unique taste. Come by and try something only found in Lodge Kiyokawa!

Bungo ‘Wagyu’ Course

For your meat lovers out there coming to Japan to experience our famous ‘Wagyu’, look no further than Bungo Wagyu.

Raised in the mountains of Bungo Ono on small farms, these cows are shielded from outside noises whilst given daily massages, beer, sake, and lots of natural grasses to feed on. People often hear about the Kobe Wagyu or the Miyazaki Wagyu but because this beef is not as well known, the farmers are allowed to put more time into the cow’s careful growth.

Ranked A5 ,being the highest grade of beef, for quality and winning many Japanese beef awards, this is a rare meal you do not want to miss out on!

Local ‘Toyo no Shamo’ Chicken Course

豊後大野ブランド地鶏コース

“Toyo no Shamo” is a branded chicken from Bungo Ono that used to have fighting tendencies for back in Bungo Onos history, they would be used for cock fights. Because of this, the chicken has a slightly tougher texture but is compacted with flavor. These rare local chickens are not available on the market because of the few breeders only found in Bungo Ono.

Vegetarian Course and Seasonal Shitake Mushroom Course

For our vegan/vegetarian customers out there, we offer a full-on vegan course to you veggie lovers. All local vegetables from Kiyokawa village with a deep-fried freeze-dried tofu to complement your meal!

In the months of November to February, the Shitake mushroom garden at the lodge is in full bloom. Only during these times, we offer this Shitake mushroom course but it is worth the wait! Bungo Ono is the highest exporter of Shiitake mushrooms in all of Japan and will continue to be for years to come!

For all other seasons, we offer our deep fried freeze dried tofu course.

To protect the environment of the Okudake river, it is prohibited to BBQ outside our allocated site.


  • Chairs and tables are available for rental on site.
  • Garbage can be disposed of onsite.
  • Guests that use only the BBQ site (without staying at Lodge Kiyokawa) can use the site from 11:00-16:00
  • Guests that are staying overnight at the lodge can use the BBQ site from 11:00-21:00
  • BBQ site fees are 400 yen per person/ 2 hours (non lodge guests)
